What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from May 2023. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well literacy teaching is lifting results for every student, particularly Māori students and boys.
ERO pointed to ongoing work to grow teachers’ skills and shared capacity, school priorities that line up with the local Kāhui Ako and teachers’ inquiries into their own practice, and a positive, inclusive culture focused on fair and strong outcomes.
Next, the school plans to keep building culturally responsive literacy teaching, put in place a local curriculum that reflects students’ culture, language and identity, including te ao Māori, te reo Māori and mātauranga Māori, and strengthen learning-focused relationships with whānau to support literacy.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme in a set application window, with the board deciding the number of places, and by ballot when there are more applicants than places. Out-of-zone families apply using the form on the enrolment page.
For new entrants, the school suggests enrolling before a child turns 5: families collect an enrolment pack, meet the principal and can join a series of weekly school visits before starting. The school publishes its out-of-zone places and ballot dates on its enrolment page each year.
