What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from June 2026. ERO found students succeed at high levels and make strong progress, with similar results across groups.

Most students meet or exceed the expected curriculum level in reading, writing and maths; maths results are equitable, and reading and writing results are becoming more so. Most students attend regularly, above the government’s 80 percent target.

ERO rated the quality of teaching highly and pointed to a positive, inclusive culture, a wide range of cultural, sporting and leadership opportunities, clear leadership, and regular use of community feedback in planning. Since its previous review the school has worked on equity in literacy, particularly writing for Māori boys, and ERO found its pastoral care of international students effective.

Its priorities are to keep sharpening deliberate, evidence-based teaching to speed up progress and reach equitable literacy results for Māori learners who need it, to embed relationship-based teaching with close checks on its effect, and to set up consistent structured maths teaching with resources that match the refreshed curriculum. ERO also noted that meeting the government’s 2030 reading, writing and maths targets needs to stay a key priority.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and the school asks for proof of address. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places, with priority for siblings of current and former students, children of former students, and children of board members and staff.

The scheme says the board announces the number of out-of-zone places, how to apply and the closing date by public notice in a local newspaper.

International students apply through the agent the school has appointed, which also handles homestays and pastoral support.
