What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from October 2023. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well culturally responsive and relational teaching creates an inclusive climate that supports fair and strong outcomes for every student, including Māori students and those with diverse learning needs.
ERO pointed to leadership that promotes the school’s vision and values with a focus on fair opportunities, an inclusive culture of respectful, supportive relationships that reflect the special character, growing staff capability, and well-established school processes that value wellbeing, student agency and academic success.
From here the school plans to focus professional learning on culturally responsive and relational teaching, strengthen relationships with whānau and the community so their aspirations shape a local curriculum, and keep improving the ways it supports students with diverse learning needs.

Enrolling
Iona College is a state-integrated school with an enrolment scheme. Day girls need to live in the school’s home zone, and applicants are sorted into preference places, for families with a link to the college’s special character, and a small number of non-preference places, offered only after all preference applicants are placed. Non-preference places go first to girls accepted into the boarding house, then by distance from the college.
Families start by pre-enrolling online and give their preference details in the year before entry, when formal applications are sent out, and boarding enquiries go to the enrolments team. Attendance dues apply under the school’s integration agreement, as set out on its fees page.
