What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from February 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well teaching in the junior school lifts equity and achievement, especially for Māori and Pacific students and those with diverse learning needs.

ERO found that students feel they belong to a close school community, with respectful and supportive relationships that reflect the school’s values and special character, and that leaders put school improvement and fair outcomes for every student at the centre of their planning.

Next, the school plans to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through consistent processes that value students’ wellbeing and cultural identity and meet diverse learning needs, make better use of assessment information to shape junior teaching within the Universal Design for Learning framework, and run professional learning so teachers can respond to the needs of every learner.

Enrolling

St John’s is a state-integrated Catholic school. Its enrolment page lists a preference form, a separate process for non-preference enrolments and an attendance dues agreement among the enrolment documents, and families can enrol online through the school’s website.

The Ministry of Education lists a home zone for the college, but its own enrolment page does not explain how the zone is applied, so families should check with the school office. The school publishes its non-preference closing date on its enrolment page each year.
