What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from March 2026. ERO found good quality teaching backed by careful use of assessment data to target teaching, structured literacy and maths helping students think more deeply, students with complex needs well supported, and a strong pastoral and Positive Behaviour for Learning focus.

In the rumaki and reo rua classes, ERO noted strong te reo Māori teaching grounded in local Māori stories, and leadership that is culturally fluent and values whānau voices.

A small majority of students meet the expected curriculum level in reading, writing and maths, with writing results not yet equitable, while in the Māori-medium classes less than half meet the expected level in pānui and less than a third in tuhituhi.

Less than a third of students attend regularly, well behind the government’s 80% target, although attendance is improving under the school’s plan.

ERO’s priorities are for the school to make teaching approaches more consistent, build more kaupapa-based, culturally rich learning into the curriculum, sharpen its Māori-medium targets with training for staff in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, the Māori-medium curriculum, strengthen partnerships with whānau, formalise its evaluation planning and raise attendance.

ERO also found two areas of non-compliance, about checking that teaching staff are registered or hold a limited authority to teach and following every step of the child protection policy, and said the board must make sure students are safe both physically and emotionally. The board has acted on the non-compliance.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

The school invites whānau to meet the principal with their child and collect an enrolment pack from the office. A birth certificate is needed, along with immunisation information if the family has it.
