What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from December 2023. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well culturally sustaining teaching lifts progress and achievement fairly for all students.

The school’s priorities include a framework for play grounded in Kahungunutanga and a local curriculum built on the Ngāti Kahungunu education strategy. ERO noted strengths in leadership that plans for steady improvement, close partnerships with mana whenua, iwi, whānau and the Pacific community, and an inclusive climate that supports students in their language, culture and identity.

From here the school plans to strengthen the ways it gives effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, build more consistent teaching practice, keep refining its local curriculum, and look critically at a range of assessment information to guide teaching and help students take charge of their learning.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places.

The school uses cohort entry for new entrants: children who are already five start at the beginning of a term, and children who turn five during a term start partway through it.
