Who goes here
Share of the 880 students who identify with each group. Students can name more than one, so these add up to more than 100%.
MELAA: Middle Eastern, Latin American and African.
Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from January 2023. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here how well the school’s local curriculum strengthens students’ sense of belonging, culture, language and identity to lift outcomes for the students it most needs to support.
The school chose this focus because it wants better attendance, engagement and progress, especially for Māori students. ERO pointed to leaders who develop the school’s vision, goals and targets together, annual targets aimed at students at risk of falling behind, and professional learning for teachers that is tied to building a responsive local curriculum.
Next, the school plans to keep strengthening its connections with the community, whānau, hapū and iwi, and to keep developing a local curriculum that is responsive and inclusive.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places, and the school publishes its Year 9 enrolment and ballot dates on its enrolment page each year.
For Year 9, families download the enrolment application form from that page and return it to the school office in person, by email or by post. Enrolment in Years 10 to 13 depends on a meeting with the principal and on whether places are available.
