What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from April 2026. ERO found the school has made some progress since its previous review, with a more strategic, collaborative approach to improvement that has strengthened school culture.

A large majority of students arrive in Year 9 well below expected curriculum levels and make significant progress, so that by the time they finish Year 10 a large majority reach expected levels in literacy, with a small majority doing so in numeracy.

In Year 11, most students sit NCEA but less than half gain Level 1 because they have not yet met the literacy and numeracy requirements, while almost all of the smaller group taking IGCSE pass.

A large majority in Years 12 and 13 gain NCEA Levels 2 and 3, less than half gain University Entrance, and results are not yet equitable across groups. Students describe a strong sense of belonging and wellbeing, classrooms are settled and respectful, and transitions into and out of the school are well planned.

ERO also found that less than half of students attend school regularly, below the Government’s target, although attendance is improving. Its priorities for the school are to strengthen evidence-based teaching that responds to each student so all make progress and outcomes become fairer, build a shared understanding of internal evaluation, and lift regular attendance, with leaders and the board reviewing attendance and achievement data every six months.
