Stand-downs and suspensions

Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.

Stand-downs55 per 1,0009 cases · NZ 36.1 per 1,000

Suspensions: fewer than 5 cases in 2025, so no rate is shown.

These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.

What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from August 2025. ERO found success and progress are rising for all students, with a large majority at or above the expected level in reading and writing and most in maths; maths results are equitable, and reading and writing results are becoming more so.

Teaching is of high quality, students feel they belong and are proud of their school, the curriculum links learning to local places and iwi, and a structured approach to literacy is being embedded.

Attendance is a concern: only a small majority of students attend regularly, the school is behind the government’s 80 percent target, and ERO judged that regular attendance was not yet improving towards it.

The priorities are to lift regular attendance, define the school’s approach to teaching and learning in line with the new curriculum and assessment requirements, embed structured maths across the school, make more use of achievement data in reading, writing and maths, and build learning partnerships with all whānau.

Enrolling

Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol, and the school asks families to check the zone before filling in its enrolment form.

Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places. The scheme says the board announces the number of out-of-zone places, and how to apply, on the school’s Facebook page.
