About Frimley

Frimley is a settled, family-oriented part of Hastings, with tree-lined streets and homes set on fertile Heretaunga Plains land. The land was added to the Hastings city boundary in 1957 to ease a shortage of building land, and housing has grown steadily since.

Daily life centres on Frimley Park and the local schools. Walking paths run through the area, including links between Nottingley Road and Pakowhai Road, and central Hastings is close by along Frimley Road.

The suburb suits people who want green space and schools on the doorstep while staying close to the shops, services and events of the Hastings city centre.

Frimley Park

Frimley Park was gifted to the Hastings Borough Council in 1951 and opened in 1953. The 19-hectare reserve is a well-known Hastings park, with mature trees, open lawns and a large rose garden.

The park has sports fields for football and cricket, picnic areas and an inclusive playground with accessible equipment. It also hosts community events such as Rose Sunday, and parts of the grounds are used for weddings and private functions.

The nearby Frimley Aquatic Centre offers outdoor swimming over the summer months.

Schools

Frimley School is a co-educational state primary school for Years 1 to 6, opened in 1952. Its curriculum weaves in te reo Māori and local history, and it works closely with whānau and local iwi.

Hastings Girls’ High School, Ngā Rau Huia o Ākina, is a state secondary school for girls in Years 9 to 13. It separated from Hastings Boys’ High School in 1955 and officially opened in 1956. Lindisfarne College, a state-integrated boys’ school for Years 7 to 13 with Presbyterian links, opened in 1953.
